Our 3rd party messaging provider has introduced an SMS ramp-up system to help users gradually increase their SMS sending limits while maintaining compliance with A2P (Application-to-Person) messaging requirements. Below, we’ll explain the system, its purpose, and how to make the most of this feature.
What Is the SMS Ramp-Up System?
The SMS ramp-up system is a gradual scaling model that regulates the number of SMS messages that accounts can send within a 24-hour period. As the accounts increase their messaging activity while adhering to compliance guidelines, they gain access to higher SMS sending limits.
Each sub-account begins at Level 1, with a daily limit of 100 SMS messages. To advance to higher levels, users must:
Send the full limit of their current level within 24 hours.
Observe a temporary restriction (24-hour sending pause) after reaching the limit.
The table below outlines the progression:
Purpose of This Feature
This feature was implemented to:
Ensure Compliance: Meet the latest A2P messaging standards, safeguarding against non-compliant practices.
Build Trust: Gradually increase customer credibility with carriers as messaging volume grows.
Protect Your Brand: Maintain a strong reputation by ensuring messages are compliant and follow best practices.
How It Works
Start at Level 1: All sub-accounts start with the ability to send 100 SMS in 24 hours.
Send Full Limit: To unlock the next level, the sub-account must send its entire daily limit within a 24-hour period.
Temporary Restriction: After hitting the daily limit, ALL SMS sending will be paused for the next 24 hours. During this time, no SMS can be sent, including one-to-one messages.
Unlock Next Level: After the restriction period, the sub-account gains access to the next level and its increased limit. For example:
Start at Level 1: Send 100 SMS.
Temporary restriction for 24 hours.
Unlock Level 2: Daily limit increases to 250 SMS.
This process continues until the sub-account reaches Level 8 (3000+ messages)
Monitoring SMS Usage
To monitor your SMS activity:
Go to Settings in your TheraSaas app.
Navigate to Billing > Wallet & Transactions.
Check your transaction history to see the total number of messages sent.
Best Practices
Plan Ahead: Schedule large campaigns strategically. For example, send the full SMS limit on Friday so that the restriction period occurs over the weekend.
Monitor Progress: Regularly check your SMS usage to track how close you are to reaching the next level.
Limitations and Important Notes
No Manual Overrides: Users cannot change or disable the ramp-up system.
Includes All Messages: Both one-to-one and automated messages count toward your daily SMS limit.
Temporary Restrictions: Once your daily limit is reached, all SMS functionalities (manual and automated) will be paused for 24 hours.
Start Date: The ramp-up model begins on the day the first successful SMS is sent, not on the account signup date.
FAQs
1. Do one-to-one and missed call text-back SMS count toward the limit?
Yes. All messages, including one-to-one and missed call text-backs, now count toward the daily limit.
2. Can I send manual messages during the temporary restriction?
No. During the 24-hour restriction, all SMS messaging (manual and automated) is disabled.
3. Will I be notified when I reach my daily limit?
Yes. You will receive an email notification once you hit the daily limit. This will alert you of the temporary restriction. See the sample below:
5. What happens if a lead replies during the restriction?
Unfortunately, it’s not possible to respond manually or through automation until the restriction period ends.
The SMS ramp-up model helps ensure your messages are delivered reliably and that your campaigns remain compliant with regulations, protecting both your brand and your relationships with customers. Use this guide to navigate the system effectively and make the most of TheraSaas’ SMS capabilities!
